you'd only do that if you want to make sure it looks right in vsfilter too, but there's no reason to use vsfilter anymore

herkz, what in the cope? you lacking in line breaks has nothing to do with vsfilter. in the *third* line of dialogue, `Our stated position is that we provide aid once independence is recognized,` you have no linebreak (one out of many examples), meaning it autowraps in both libass and vsfilter as "provide \N aid", whereas from a reading perspective it should wrap as "aid \N once", which sam correctly implemented. You can choose to not care about that, but vsfilter is completely irrelevant

where a line should wrap on non-punctuation is extremely subjective. saying it's "correctly implemented" is pretty arrogant, tbh.

I am always amazed that out of the dozens of different things a fansubber could spend their precious time on, many of them spend it on linebreaks, and then spend even more of it talking about linebreak theory and criticizing other people's linebreaks

i said "You can choose to not care about that", which is exactly what i meant. i don't really care about if you include certain line breaks or not, but it's certainly irrelevant to vsfilter, which is what you seem to be thinking, herkz. But if you *are* going to add them, like sam did, there's a "best practice" that people follow, and he implemented it to that best practice. I know that neither of you (herkz and motbob) care about line breaks, and that's fine, meaning I've never reported "issues" (i.e. not following the "best practice") about them to either of you, because I know you don't care

I agree with animorphs. Where a line breaks can affect the flow of a sentence, how quickly you parse it, and even your understanding of it. In most cases the default line break is perfectly fine but some lines benefit from a manual touch. Its importance isn't high but it's not 0 either Thank you sam for the encode :)

Mate, everyone agrees that manual linebreaks are useful sometimes. We're discussing a situation where someone placed a manual linebreak in every auto-wrapped line. That's an entirely different thing.

I feel like a lot of fansubbers do that? Automation scripts exist to mark anything that’s automatically wrapped, and other scripts even exist that can do best guesses of where to insert linebreaks. I decided to test to see how it actually takes, so I removed all linebreaks from the commie script, ran the automation to flag missing ones, and manually added them all in less than 3 minutes. This is incredibly easy to do, so I’m not sure why you have such a vendetta against it and treat it like a giant waste of time. Sure, it's not particularly important, but it can basically only be a net positive at virtually no cost
